When he got lucky he took control of his destiny by taking action.

On October 15, 2014 something amazing happened: an article I wrote was published on The Good Men Project. At first I failed to realize the magnitude of this blessing until my wife informed me how big this was. To be honest I didn’t know this organization existed until my wife shared with me a facebook post that was an advertisement for interested writers to submit their work for The Good Men Project Sports section.
When she shared this post she encouraged me to try and submit something. It took only a second for me to say, “What the heck.” I didn’t think anything of it and since I had nothing to lose but a few hours in my day I wrote without fear, which resulted in a personal piece about my grandfather. I really didn’t think anything would come of it. I thought I’d get an email that started with, “We regret to inform you … ” but instead I was shocked to learn that it had been accepted and after several edits it was posted.
Now it has been about five months since I started writing regularly for the Good Men Project. This opportunity has been an eye opening experience that has taught me the power of our personal stories. Sure I still have grammatical errors but it hasn’t been enough to turn people off. I’ve been able to share my stories with thousands of people and that is something I never thought was possible for someone like me.
Now some of you may think I was extremely lucky to be writing for The Good Men Project and I wouldn’t disagree with you, however, it took action for my piece to be written, not luck. Once luck opened the door for me, I took control of my fate by having the courage to put pen to paper or in this case finger to keyboard.
So no matter how lucky life can get it still comes down to our actions. I could have ignored the post my wife sent me and shrugged it off as a waste of time but instead I asked myself, “Why not?”. So when luck seems to be knocking at your door I want you to ask that same question and remember it takes action to turn your luck into destiny.
