If you haven’t seen it yet you should take a minute to view this powerful video that reminds parents like myself how important the little things are to our kids. I need to admit it brought a few tears to my eyes as I’m reminded of what I could be denying my children by sitting in front of the tv during dinner. It’s a habit I picked up while growing up. During my childhood I don’t remember times where I sat with my parents or grandparents. If I did it was probably during special occasions like birthdays or holidays.
Do I feel unsatisfied with my childhood because of it?
Not really and there are far better reasons why my childhood wasn’t as good as it could have been. However, I can’t help but wonder what benefits would I have reaped if I had dinners at a table with my family.

Luckily the internet was invented and I found an article that proposes a theory that eating with your family makes you healthier. Here is the report:
Why Families Who Eat Together Are Healthier
Based on this report it suggests that eating together as a family could have positive affects on depression. Could this be true? Well, I guess it depends on the family. If the family is in turmoil eating dinner may not help but instead just lead to fighting at the dinner table. However, if the family is having dinner with the purpose of slowing down and connecting with one another that could make a difference. Dinner would offer an opportunity for issues that can cause depression to be brought up and addressed before it grows worse.

In the end, I believe great things occur by small means so even if dinner with the family seems insignificant it shouldn’t be dismissed because it’s too easy. Instead we should try to have more dinners as a family because it’s something we can do. Now for some the businesses of life can make dinner with the family difficult especially if you are trying to do it everyday. If this is you don’t worry about how many times you do it just try and do it. Start off with once a week and if that doesn’t work once a month. The point is you do your best to have a meal.
Now let’s make dinner a family activity because your kids just might want it.
