I think like most parents I sometimes forget how awesome my kids are. When you’re raising children you see the good, the bad and the ugly. For some children we may experience more good then bad while others may cause us to second guess our choice of having children. Whatever the case may be we as parents can fall into the bad habit of only seeing the things our children need to fix especially the kids we have labeled as troublesome. Instead of looking for the good things our children do we search for the chinks in their armor, which is something I’m ashamed of doing. So in response to this I’ve decided to focus on the positive by writing down the awesome things my children do. By recording this on the blog I hope to keep it as a reminder that my children have the potential of not only being good but awesome.
Since my wife and I brought our newborn home my oldest daughter has been very excited. She will take time to talk to her and admire her cuteness. She even decided to create some rules, which she likes to call the baby rules. She created them because we didn’t have any rules when our second daughter was born. Happy Birthday Leolani. So being the good older sister she decided to provide us with some guidelines.
Baby Rules
1. Don’t let baby lean over the balcony.
2. Don’t let baby put fingers into electric socket.
3. Baby needs to eat.
4. Let baby sleep.
5. Be gentle around baby.
6. Talk to baby.
7. Don’t let baby put spoons inside her mouth.
8. You should always make sure baby is sleeping good.
9. Don’t let baby step on the toys or any clothes.
10. Don’t open the door when baby is next to it.
11. Don’t let baby swim if you’re not there.
When she shared with me these rules I realized how mindful she was of her baby sister. She really does care about her and understands her frailty as a baby. I’m not sure how many kids think this way because I know I didn’t but I thought it was impressive.
My kid is awesome.
